My new favourite Green Juice: Lime & Pear

DSC06010

Another morning, another green juice…

When you drink juice every day, after a while you start getting bored with the same old recipes. Even the ones that were your favourites…. actually, those are the ones that bore you first, because they are also the ones you prepare most frequently.

So, for the past few days I’ve been playing with the fruits and vegetables I usually have in the fridge to see if they could be turned into something worthy of being added to the list of daily juices. After a couple of flops (kale-spinach-ginger, big NO!) and some ok juices, I finally produced a juice that made me want to go “Eureka!” (I didn’t though, because despite my incredible skills as a green juice ninja, I’m no Archimedes).

This is now, officially, my new favourite juice, good-bye Mango-Lime juice, thou hast been a faithful friend!

Ingredients:

100 ml water

1 lime, peeled.

1 pear, quartered.

A bunch of spinach

1 quarter cucumber

DSC06013How to:

1.- Place the 100 ml water in the jug of your juicer, so that the juice will fall on the water, rather than adding the water to your juice at the end.

2.- Place the fruit and veg in the following order: spinach, lime, cucumber and pear.

3.- Juice and Enjoy.

It tastes like none of the ingredients, it is sweet from the pear and sharp from the lime, yet it is also quite refreshing from the cucumber. The spinach is completely lost, so if you don’t like the taste of spinach but want to include it in your diet, this is a great way to do it.

Unlike some juices, this one doesn’t have a very thick layer of foam on top either. I don’t mind the foam, but some people do, so if you are one of those people, this juice might be just for you.

Also, I love the bright green colour!

So… what’s good about this juice?

Limes are full of vitamin C which boosts the immune system.

Pears have calcium, magnesium, potassium, folic acid, pectin and iodine. They are diuretic, stimulate metabolism and the pectin in them removes toxins from the gut.

Cucumbers are almost 90% water; this high water content plus the dietary fibre in cucumbers, makes them very effective in ridding the body of toxins from the digestive system, aiding digestion.

Have a great day!
