3-Ingredient Blueberry Smoothie

Summer is here! The radio just said today is going to be the hottest day of the year! I don’t know how the sky looks where you are, but from my window it’s clear, blue and bright.

A day that smells of holidays…

So for breakfast I decided to prepare something a bit different from the usual toast or cereals.

Because it is actually warm, even though it is only 8:40am, I went with a smoothie and because I had blueberries and home-made almond milk I decided to prepare a blueberry smoothie…and because no one has much time in the mornings anyway I kept it simple, with only three ingredients.

This drink will see you to work full of energy and with a spring in your step. There’s nothing like a healthy smoothie to start the day on a positive note.

Ingredients for 400ml:

1 banana cut in half.

a handful of blueberries

200 ml of almond milk

1.- Place the blueberries, banana and the almond milk in a blender and blend together.

If you have a hand-held blender, add half the almond milk, blend a bit and then add the remaining almond milk. That way you’ll get a better result.

2.- Place in glasses with a few ice cubes and enjoy!!

If you like things a bit sweeter, try adding 1 tablespoon honey or 4 dates to the mix.

If you want a slower release of energy add 1 fat teaspoon of milled flaxseed.

What’s good about this smoothie?

Blueberries are rich in vitamin C which boosts the immune system and helps prevent and fight infections. They are also packed with antioxidants, fibre and have a high content of vitamin A.

Bananas are high in potassium and low in salt, they are officially recognized by the FDA as being able to lower blood pressure and protect against heart attack and stroke.

Due to their high levels of tryptophan, which is converted into serotonin — the happy-mood brain neurotransmitter, bananas are great to fight low moods or during PMS. Which means that this smoothie will send you to work with a smile on your face 🙂
